TRAINING FOR CASTING MACHINE OPERATORS & MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL

Operator training

Wirtz Manufacturing Company, Inc. is proud to announce its Grid Casting School, designed for:

1. Casting machine operators, group leaders or supervisors who basically concentrate on running the equipment.

2. For maintenance personnel responsible for trouble shooting and keeping equipment in top operating condition.

The training program in both cases, is 4 1/2 days long, starting at 8:00 A.M. on Monday, and running until 12:00 noon on Friday. Normal training hours run from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. The hours may vary slightly due to minor adjustments in the training schedule.

Operator training

Classes are comprised of 3 to 5 persons maximum. Call for Quote. (Price does not include lodging, meals, incidentals, local travel expenses, passport, visa fees, etc. incurred in preparation and during travel to and from destination.) An instructor is supplied by Wirtz Manufacturing Company, Inc. The small classes are ideal to give everyone an identity and encourage student participation in the program. It also allows the instructor to provide individual student assistance as needed.

The course consists of classroom lecture and student practice and involvement with actual casting equipment on the floor. The maximum time in the formal classroom for any one day is four hours and the remainder of the day is spent on the shop floor with "hands on" experience with the equipment.

Operator training

Each student is informed in the beginning that he/she will be given a test at the end of the program. Upon successful completion of the program a diploma is awarded.

The formal classes are conducted in a well lighted and air conditioned conference room located outside the normal traffic flow in the plant. The location is ideal in that interruptions and distractions are reduced to an absolute minimum.

Classroom work consists of instructor, lecture and discussions to familiarize the class with various systems that make up the casting equipment, cork allowances, casting theory, production casting, etc. At the start of the week, each student is given a class outline and a series of booklets that contain diagrams, schematics and written explanations of these various systems along with corking procedures, cork mixing, and spraying techniques, etc. The booklets are used as reference material during the classes and each student is instructed to take his set back to his/her plant for future reference.

Class work in the plant is conducted on actual casting equipment and consists of trouble - shooting the equipment, corking for weight control, production running, touch-up spray techniques, etc. The equipment is located in a clean and remote but well lighted and ventilated area of the plant. The location of the equipment, like the classroom, is such that distractions are held to a minimum.

The instructor, deliberately alters the equipment out of phase, or adjustment, and each student is given the opportunity to correct the problem. Each student is allowed, with instruction, to develop the proper cork spraying techniques needed for weight control and long cork life.

The students are taught all the technical knowledge of casting along with the actual running and corking of the machine. This type of learning allows for more flexibility later in his/her casting career. The student now has a good solid casting technical background to rely on when problems arise.

Operator training

Special arrangements may be made to train operators on calcium alloy at an extra cost. Advance notice of more than two months may be required to schedule material and equipment.

Contact us for details of schedules and costs. Schools may be scheduled exclusively for your employees with two months notice.

We at Wirtz Manufacturing Company, Inc. feel that these students, upon graduation, could train other operators in the proper techniques of casting good quality grids.
