LEAD SHUT OFF VALVE
(By Means of Water Chill)
This valve is part of the upper lead valve body #24666.
The purpose of this valve is to prevent lead flowing during servicing of the lead valve seat.
The valve is composed of a specially constructed section of lead line immediately above the lead dispense valve.
The lead valve is operated by means of a quick acting water valve which is located in a handy location. When the water is turned on, the lead solidifies in the shut-off valve. To re-start the lead flow, the water shut-off valve is closed and within a short time the lead in the lead valve section will re-melt and the normal casting cycle may be continued.
This valve is not intended as an emergency shut-off with the lead full flowing.
With a floor furnace and lead pump operation this valve has an additional advantage, in that during the shut down period shutting off the lead flow by this valve restricts the back flow of lead in the feedline thus preventing air entering the feedline and reduces possible oxidization within the feedline.
In the case of an elevated furnace and feedline system this valve is not intended to replace the normal lead shut off valve on the furnace feedline.
The lead shut off valve is covered by patents or patents pending associated with other machine components.
