AUTOMATIC LEAD DISPENSE VALVE (LDS)
The Wirtz Lead Dispense Valve accurately dispenses the lead from the feedline to the ladle and therefore eliminates the need for an overflow return of lead to the melting furnace. It can be used effectively with a lead pump or a gravity feed system on all battery grid lead alloys. The valve does not allow air to be introduced into the feedline and substantially decreases dross build up in the feedline.
Elimination of the lead overflow decreases dross in the melting pot, decreases the amount of heat required to increase the lead temperatures in a feedline and ladle and minimizes lead flow variations.
The design of the valve allows the replacement of the ball and ball seat in a very few minutes. The valve is automatically operated by a solid state timer which is interlocked with the machine, and it will not dispense lead unless the machine is running and the ladle has poured the previous grid. When the machine is stopped, the lead valve automatically closes. The amount of lead dispensed can be varied easily by adjusting the timer setting. A selector switch permits manual operation of the lead valve for machine adjustment and set up.
When used with the exclusive Wirtz Lead Shut Off Valve (by means of water chilling), the flow of lead through the valve can be stopped while keeping the feedline at operating temperatures.
A revision to the valve seat has been made to make it less susceptible to dross problems and plugging.
The lead dispense valve and associated parts are covered by patents or patents pending.
