KLEEN WASH MOLD WASH CONCENTRATE
Molds should be clean before corking because cork will not stick to a dirty or greasy mold. The mold should be brushed with a brass wire brush until the old cork is removed form the surface of both mold halves.
If the surface has any oil, grease, or is contaminated with something else, or if the cork just does not seem to stick, the mold must be washed.
A good washing agent is "Kleen Wash" solution. "Kleen Wash" solution is a strong cleaner, environmentally safe, biodegradable and fume free. Eye protection should be used when mixing or applying the cleaner. For best results:
1. Mix 1 oz. powered Kleen Wash concentrate into one gallon warm water. (30 grams powder into 4 liters)
2. Heat the mold to at least 300° F (149° C).
3. Brass wire brush the mold surface.
4. Use a bristle (fiber) scrub brush, dip in the cleaning solution and brush mixture on the face of mold to clean the surface. Brush the entire surface several times. (The gate area must be completely clean)
5. Use clean water to rinse the mold surface.
6. Brass wire brush the surface, again, to remove any powdered cleaner residue.
Washing the mold is done if oil or grease is spilled on the casting surface, if the cork will not stick properly, or after each 40 to 60 hours of production to remove sodium silicate build-up in wire areas.
"Kleen Wash" mold wash concentrate is available in a box of 25 - 1 oz. packets.
