AUTOMATIC GRID CASTING MACHINE

The Wirtz Model 220 Grid Casting Machine is a high speed grid caster designed for 3 shift, or 24 hour, 7 day a week continuous operation. Its heavy duty construction allows high speed continuous operation.

Both the mold and trim die are hydraulically operated to eliminate troublesome air and mechanical problems. This hydraulic feature also allows planishing or sizing of the grid to eliminate oversize tolerances.

The internal scrap conveyor is constructed of steel and is chain driven to eliminate maintenance problems. This conveyor extends under the stacker to automatically deliver any grids discarded during the stacking operation to the lead pot.

The Model 220 also has the patented Pallet Type Die Entry Mechanisim. This grid handling system is designed to handle all sizes of automotive grids. The Pallet Die Entry Mechanism transfers the grid from the grid transport belt onto the pallet plate where it is positioned and fed into the trim die.

The heat controls of the lead system and mold allow operation at correct mold temperatures with control of mold warpage which becomes more critical when casting at speeds in excess of 16 per minute. For the battery manufacturer, this means longer runs on cork jobs, casting at faster speeds with less scrap, and increased productivity.
